Saying No to a Thames Water Rescue Deal

Earlier this week it was reported that Ofwat is poised to accept a deal from Thames Water’s creditors, allowing the organisation to continue pumping sewage into our waterways with impunity for the next four years.
This is completely unacceptable.
Time and again, Thames Water has demonstrated a complete disregard for public and environmental health while evading accountability. Allowing it to continue dumping raw sewage into our precious rivers and streams without consequence is a scandal in and of itself.
Thames Water was the worst offender for duration of sewage spills in 2025, with an average of 11.7 hours' worth per spill. While we are still yet to see what this equates to in terms of volume, the Dirty Business docudrama laid bare the damaging effects on our communities and our environment.
My Liberal Democrat colleagues and I are clear: it is time for Thames Water to be put into Special Administration. We simply cannot sit back and allow water bosses to pocket millions while forcing customers to foot the clean-up bill created by years of mismanagement.
That is why I have signed an open letter calling for Ofwat and the Environment Secretary to reject this deal. Accepting it would only give the green card to water companies across the country to continue polluting our waterways, damaging the environment, and putting the public at grave risk.
I will continue to push for this deal to be rejected, and I will keep you updated as new developments unfold.
