August was a month spent speaking with local residents, supporting casework, and getting out and about across Newbury and West Berkshire as part of my Summer Surgery Tour.
I visited towns and villages across the constituency, including Chieveley, Hampstead Marshall, Hermitage, Hungerford, Inkpen, Lambourn, Newbury, Stockcross, and Thatcham. Thank you to everyone who took the time to come along and speak with me. Whether it was concerns about healthcare, housing, SEND support, problems with EVRI, local infrastructure, Thames Water, the cost of living, or something else entirely, all conversations help shape the work I do both locally and in Westminster.
My team and I continued to deal with a high volume of casework throughout the month, including ongoing concerns about Thames Water, local water supplies, and leaks affecting residents across the constituency. Alongside this, I met with AJM to discuss wheelchair accessibility and with West Berkshire Council regarding SEND provision and the support available to local families. We also saw a significant increase in emails and letters from constituents about the upcoming Assisted Dying debate, as well as concerns around the Government's prisoner early release scheme. The case of PC Andrew Harper remains particularly important to many local residents, and I have continued to make sure those views are heard.
It was great to attend several community events, including village fetes, local car shows, and, of course, Afrofest. These events showcase the strong community spirit and diversity that make Newbury and West Berkshire such a fantastic place to live.
I also visited Crookham Common to see the impact of the wildfire earlier this summer and to thank the firefighters, emergency services, and farmers who worked so hard to help protect local people, homes, and wildlife.
At the end of the month, I was fortunate to spend a week with my family before Parliament returned. As Westminster gets back to work, I'll be taking the issues and concerns raised with me over the summer back to ministers and continuing to fight for the people of Newbury and West Berkshire.
