Bowel Cancer Awareness Month: Why Early Diagnosis Matters

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK, with around 43,000 people diagnosed every year. It’s also one of the leading causes of cancer related deaths, often because it isn’t detected until the later stages. 


However, when bowel cancer is detected early, more than 90% of people survive, which is exactly why raising awareness is so critical. 


Every April, Bowel Cancer Awareness Month brings people together with the aim of making sure more people know the symptoms, understand the importance of screening, and feel confident seeking medical advice. This year, Bowel Cancer UK is encouraging everyone to get involved and #PassItOn to help change outcomes for thousands of people.
