Four Years on: Standing with Ukraine

Today marks four years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Despite enduring sustained attacks and suffering unimaginable loss, the Ukrainian people have continued to show extraordinary courage and resilience to defend their freedom.

Last year, I had the privilege of witnessing this bravery first-hand during a parliamentary visit to Kyiv and Lviv. While there, I saw first-hand the stark realities of life in a war-torn country - from having meetings interrupted by air-raid alerts to visiting hospitals filled with injured civilians. This visit served as a clear reminder of the urgent need for decisive international action.

Closer to home, I have met many Ukrainian families who have settled in West Berkshire. Their stories of adjusting to life in a new country, searching for employment opportunities and navigating a complex visa system were both moving and inspiring. They too have shown remarkable bravery by rebuilding their lives and contributing to our community while facing uncertainty about the future.

As we mark this fourth anniversary, our message must be clear: we stand with Ukraine, and our support will not waver.
