UK Parliament Week is always a highlight in my calendar, and this year is no exception. I’m absolutely delighted that 49 organisations and schools across Newbury and West Berkshire have signed up to take part.
From primary schools learning what an MP does, to community groups holding mini-debates, it’s brilliant to see so many people getting involved and exploring how democracy works.
For me, UK Parliament Week is about one thing: empowering young people to have a voice. Whether they’re asking questions about climate change, sharing ideas to support their community, or learning how laws are made, these early experiences help build confidence, curiosity and a sense of civic pride.
Over the coming days, I’ll be visiting some of the groups taking part, and I’d love to hear from the children and young people involved. If your school or organisation has questions, projects, or letters you’d like to share with me, please do get in touch.
Thank you to everyone taking part this year. UK Parliament Week is a reminder that democracy belongs to all of us, and it’s inspiring to see so many local groups embracing it.
