Keir Starmer Must Condemn Trump’s Illegal Actions in Venezuela

I want to thank everyone who has been in touch about the shocking news from Venezuela. The capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, alongside large-scale strikes, is a serious breach of international norms.
While Maduro is a brutal and illegitimate leader, the way these actions have been carried out by the US President is illegal and dangerous. It sends a signal to global leaders like Putin and Xi that they can attack their neighbours and seize resources with impunity. That is the kind of world we must resist.
Keir Starmer has again refused to say whether these strikes breach international law. His hesitancy risks giving Trump a free pass and undermines the rules that protect nations worldwide.
The Liberal Democrats have called for the Government to release any legal advice it holds on this matter. Transparency is essential. The British public deserves to know if international law has been violated, and our Government must hold leaders accountable, whatever their power or influence.
I will continue to push for clarity and accountability on this issue, and I thank everyone who has shared their concerns. Britain must stand for the rule of law, even when global politics are messy and difficult.
