Thank you to all those who have contacted me about the extension of the Newbury town centre pedestrianisation period until 11:00 pm. I appreciate hearing your views on this matter, as the change has generated strong opinions on both sides. As you know, this is a trial period, and West Berkshire Council is committed to gathering feedback before making any final decisions. Your input is invaluable in helping to shape the future of our town centre.
My team and I had a call with West Berkshire Council earlier this week about this matter, and I shared all of the feedback I have received with the council to make sure your voices are heard. They confirmed to me that this is indeed a trial and not a permanent change, and they will take into account feedback from residents, businesses, and all those affected before deciding on any long-term changes.
This trial offers an opportunity to assess the impact on traffic, businesses, and the general flow of the town centre.
If you feel strongly about the extension, I encourage you to get in touch with your local councillors. They are the ones who will ultimately make the decision, and they need to hear directly from the community about how these changes are impacting us.
I will continue to keep an eye on what is happening in Newbury town centre throughout the trial and am listening closely to the views of local residents. However, it is important to remember that this is ultimately a matter for the Council to decide, based on all of the feedback they receive.
Once again, thank you for raising your concerns and sharing your thoughts. Please continue to provide your feedback on this matter to help ensure that any decisions made are in the best interest of the community.
