Scrap the US-UK Pharma Deal & Put Our NHS First

In the middle of a social care crisis, the Government has chosen to placate Donald Trump rather than put patients first. The proposed US-UK pharmaceutical deal will see the NHS pay out at least £3bn a year or more in higher medicine costs, money that would flow straight into the pockets of American pharmaceutical giants.
That sum is equivalent to our entire maternity budget. Yet MPs are being denied a vote, and the public has had no say. Trump’s own Health Secretary, RFK JR, made it clear that this deal is designed to put Americans first.
This comes at a time when our NHS is at breaking point. More than 6,000 people have tragically died while waiting for care and, in November 2025, over 50,000 patients in England waited more than 12 hours to be admitted to hospital.
The Liberal Democrats are clear that this deal must be scrapped. By cancelling it, we would free up £1.5bn to invest where it is desperately needed: in social care. Alongside introducing a new legal duty to limit the time patients wait to be admitted, the funding would help create 6,000 additional beds every day, end 12-hour A&E waiting lists, and solve the deadly corridor care crisis.
The Liberal Democrats have always said that the UK is going to have to work with whoever was elected President, but working constructively does not mean rolling over. It is time for the Government to stand up to Trump, reject this deal, and put our NHS first.
I and the Liberal Democrats will not rest until local patients get the care and dignity they deserve.
