Supporting Equestrian Road Safety From Lambourn to Parliament

Lambourn is rightly known as the ‘Valley of the Racehorse’, and with good reason, equestrian life is at the heart of our community. That’s why I was so pleased to join the start of the Road Safety Awareness Ride from Lambourn, part of Project EDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death).
The ride was held in memory of Knockalla, a two-year-old racehorse tragically killed in a road accident. It served as a poignant reminder of just how vulnerable horses and riders can be on our roads.
I was inspired by the passion and determination of those who took part, from professional jockeys and trainers to local equestrians and road safety campaigners. It was a powerful display of community action and shared purpose.
To help turn awareness into action, I have now submitted an Early Day Motion in Parliament calling for improved equestrian road safety. The motion highlights the importance of national guidance, better signage, and greater awareness among drivers.
You can read the full motion here: EDM 63611 – Improving Equestrian Road Safety Awareness
I also visited Oaksey House in Lambourn, part of the Injured Jockeys Fund, and Jamie Osborne’s yard to learn more about the support available for injured riders and the daily realities facing those in the equestrian world.
