Three-weekly Bin Collections Update

As we move into the warmer months, I know one topic will be creeping back to the top of many constituents’ minds. The Council recently announced that the move to three-weekly bin collections has boosted recycling rates. But the real test will come as we head into summer and temperatures rise.

In recent weeks, I have been pressing the Council for updates on how they are monitoring the wider impact of the new system. Because recycling rates are only one part of the picture. I have also heard concerns about increased fly‑tipping, pressure on household waste recycling centres, and abuse directed at front-line refuse workers. While I welcome improvements in our recycling performance, it is important that any unintended negative consequences are also fully evaluated.

That is why I will continue to push for transparency on how the scheme is working, including both the positive and negative impact on the environment and our community. I will update you as I hear more.
