North East Thatcham: Please Have Your Say Before the Consultation Closes on 14 May

I know many people across Thatcham are deeply concerned about the proposed North East Thatcham development and what it could mean for our roads, GP services, schools, sewage infrastructure, rail capacity, and green spaces.

That is why I want to encourage local residents to take part in the current masterplan consultation before it closes on 14 May.

This consultation is not the final planning application. It is about shaping the overall masterplan for the site and influencing the infrastructure, layout, and community facilities that would need to come alongside any development.

The consultation includes proposals and questions around:

• transport and road infrastructure

• rail connectivity

• healthcare provision

• school places

• sewage and drainage

• green spaces and biodiversity

• walking and cycling routes

• community facilities

• the overall layout and phasing of development

  
  

I have been clear throughout this process: infrastructure must come first, not years after homes are built.

During the Local Plan process, West Berkshire Council sought to reduce the scale of development, but Government housing requirements and the Planning Inspector’s conclusions significantly limited what changes could ultimately be made within the adopted framework.

That does not mean local concerns should simply be brushed aside. Far from it.

The current consultation is an important opportunity for residents to put their views on record and help shape what happens next. I know many people remain frustrated and worried, and I will continue pushing for proper infrastructure, accountability, and protections for existing communities as this process moves forward.
