Justice for WASPI Women

Yesterday in Parliament, I asked the Government when justice will finally be delivered for WASPI women. The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman’s landmark report was clear: these women were failed, and compensation should be paid. With a deadline of 2nd March 2026, ministers have now accepted their original refusal of compensation was flawed and are reviewing all the evidence. This is testament to the persistence and bravery of thousands of women who have relentlessly campaigned for justice.

Behind this injustice, are constituents like Jane. Jane worked from the age of 13, cared for her parents while raising a family, and was then forced to work an extra seven years because of the Government’s mishandling of the State Pension age.  Sadly, this story is not unique. Around 5,200 women in Newbury were affected, and I have heard from many others who were left unable to plan for retirement or had to continue working even though they had severe health issues.

Following the out-of-court settlement reached in December, I joined more than 100 MPs from across Parliament in writing to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, urging the government to accept the Ombudsman’s findings in full and bring forward compensation proposals without further delay.

As the early March deadline draws closer, this is a decisive moment for WASPI women, and I will keep pressing the Government to deliver the fair and timely compensation they deserve.
